This week I've been playing Rock Crusher and Points Progression. I don't have a lot to say about them, but they've been fun - points progression in particular has been scratching my optimization itch quite well.
I shared this game idea I had on the galaxy discord server. I don't think I have time to implement it (project backlog and all, haha). But it got some decent support there, so perhaps it's a fun idea.
Game idea: it's just a single long page, but all the content is at the top. Unlocking content just means making the next part of the page visible. There's text from a narrator explaining how they're trying to fill the whole page with content, and they'll come up with things like just pasting a large image onto the page as a "reward" for getting past a section. Since it's all on one page, instead of things like subtabs for upgrades v milestones, you'll just have a couple rows of upgrades then a milestone etc. New mechanics that would normally go on new layers similarly just appear underneath the milestone that unlocks them, etc.
Also, this week I've started to notice my list of games to look through tends to not work perfectly chronologically. If a game is private, for example, then its created at date can be earlier than just "the last week". This means its a bit difficult to find all the games I actually haven't seen yet - but I have an idea on how to solve it. I'll make a new page on the site that shows the most recent game that hasn't been assigned a newsletter, and lets me view its details and determine if it should be featured or not (perhaps with a tinder-style interface). Then it'll just go down the list until everything's been assigned to the current newsletter. Hopefully I can get that implemented before next week's newsletter.
Also, there's been some game jams this week! I noticed several of this week's games coming from the B1T jam. Very fun premise with some fun games as a result. There was also a one hour jam that had a couple incremental game entries, likely due to this genre being pretty easy to make something within in such a short timeframe.
